A Wide (or Square) Jaw is simply where the jawline appears enlarged, square or disproportionate to the the rest of the face. Since the appearance of a wide jaw is typically considered a masculine feature, in women, it can feel like a concern that affects the overall balance to the face and side profile.
In many cases, a wider jaw where bone structure is formed genetically, naturally creates a beautiful square, rectangular or even diamond shaped face in harmony with its natural contours. However, if believed to be overly heavy or out of proportion it may lack poise and balance and require treatments to augment and sculpt a more pleasing profile.
A wide jaw is also often a result of enlarged masseter muscles which are responsible for actions such as chewing and clenching. If these muscles are used excessively, like any other muscle in the body, they will grow and strengthen, thus creating a more prominent jawline. A wide jaw is very commonly a side effect of Bruxism, an often involuntary and habitual condition of undue teeth grinding and jaw clenching, more of which you can read about here.
In instances whereby the bone structure of the jaw is disproportionate, we can use facial contouring treatments such as cheek enhancement dermal fillers to draw attention upwards, and give the illusion of a slimmer jawline by lifting and widening the cheeks; or even a slight chin augmentation to gently elongate the face. Similarly, careful and strategic placement of dermal filler along the jawline itself can help to soften the outline for a more feminine silhouette.
Whereas to reduce muscle tone and size at the jaw, we would recommend a treatment of botulinum toxin A to relax the masseter muscles, causing them to lessen whilst treating the act of clenching and/or teeth grinding simultaneously.
Masseter Reduction. Botulinum Toxin A injections are an effective way to treat concerns affecting the muscles of the lower face. Over use or genetically larger than average masseter muscles located at the angle of the jaw can cause both a medical and aesthetic concern. For some grinding and clenching of the back teeth can be a troublesome side effect of the enlarged muscles and for others the squared appearance of the lower face may be perceived as unattractive.
Cheek Volumisation. Cheek Enhancement is a treatment used to achieve fullness and a fresh and healthy look upon the mid to upper areas of the face. Using a high-velocity hyaluronic acid filler that is of a denser consistency to that more commonly used in popular treatments such as lip enhancement, we can create contour, definition and volume in order to restore balance and structure that is often lost with age.
Midface Threadlift. The cheeks contours have long been accepted as feature of youth. Over time, the soft tissue of the cheeks can migrate or become deflated. This can create a hollowness to the midface and sagging of the overlying skin. In the majority of cases this can be treated by re-aligning the sagging skin and transposing it back the high points of the cheeks to restore a youthful appearance. The best alternative to surgery to achieve this this is PDO, or polydiaxanone, Thread lifts. This innovative technique used in aesthetics will lift the soft tissue and stimulate an increase in collagen production in order to target sagging skin and is a great alternative to a face-lift.
Dr Saleki is the sweetest and most professional Dr ever! I was really nervous and she completely put me at ease for my fox eye thread lift!
I was a bit nervous, Dr Mahsa was lovely, she couldn’t of been more professional and kind. I had nose threads and the procedure was quick and apart from a bit of discomfort with the anaesthetic, the rest was totally pain free. I am 3 days post treatment and still a bit swollen but other than that everything has been very smooth and I feel fine. I’m excited to see the settled results. Would I recommend, 100% yes.
First time I every had any treatment and it was a brilliant experience, The Dr was very Calm and compassionate and clear. I read about a treatment threading but she said I didn’t need it and suggested fillers and fat dissolving which has work for me, definitely go again even though it took me over 2hours to get there.
