Forehead Lines are the horizontal fine lines and/or wrinkles that form across the forehead. These lines appear as we begin to age as a result from continuous facial expressions. Emotions of interest, surprise, happiness and even fear all contribute to the formation of forehead lines, as we usually express ourselves in this way by raising our eyebrows. It is the frontalis muscle on the forehead which contracts when the brow is raised, and it’s this continuous pulling on the skin, when the muscle is engaged, that causes wrinkles to form here over time.

When we are young, collagen and elastin within the skin regenerate quickly and so lines do not have adequate time to develop. But as we age, this process slows and so the repetitive movements of the muscles beneath the skin, assisted by a number of environmental factors such as: smoking, prolonged sun-exposure, excessive alcohol consumption and poor diet, cause fine lines and wrinkles to evolve and establish themselves indefinitely.

Similarly to frown lines, lines on the forehead can create a look that is tired and sombre, and so they are a common concern to treat with anti-wrinkle injections. Anti-wrinkle injections contain a substance called botulinum toxin A – a protein which works by blocking the release of a neurotransmitter to relax muscles in a precise and specific area, restricting them from contracting.

As a result, the overlying skin becomes smoother and fine lines and wrinkles are alleviated for 3-6 months in a subtle and natural looking way.
