Sculptra is a procedure that is relatively straight forward. On the day of the appointment you will be given the option for having topical numbing cream to reduce any minor discomforts you may experience. The Sculptra PPLA powder is mixed with water to activate it and this is then injected in different zones. You can treat the whole face if you so wish in one sitting. Most patients experience some nice results straight away but the most optimal Sculptra results take 2-3 months to show.
After the procedure, the treated area may feel tender and swollen. Once the water solution is absorbed the PLLA elements coat the skin fibres and start to attract cytokines and chemokine to the area. To ensure the optimal result and gradual, long-lasting effect of Sculptra, it is important that you comply with the aftercare instructions provided by your practitioner. Aftercare recommendations are as follows:
Massage the treated area for 5 minutes, 5 times per day for 5 days after your treatment, according to your practitioner’s advice. Use moisturising cream to reduce friction when massaging within the first 24 hours after your treatment, apply an ice pack or ice wrapped in a cloth (avoid putting ice directly on your skin) to the treatment area to help reduce swelling. Avoid excessive sun, UV sunlamp exposure and extreme temperatures until swelling and redness have disappeared.
