THE TRUTH ABOUT THREAD-LIFT TREATMENTS LAID BARE…

Dr Mahsa Saleki Clinic London about page

From Save Face’s Ashton Collins & SAS Aesthetics’ Dr Mahsa Saleki

Save Face reports triple the number of complaints about thread lifts in 2022 compared to the previous year.

The digital landscape of social media is undeniably integrated into our every day; and as we find ourselves adapting and navigating our way through it, soaking up the trend-driven images, adverts and newest industry techniques, our time spent online is often considered a catalyst for the growing popularity of aesthetic treatments – not least when the transformative before and afters of revolutionary Thread-Lift procedures flaunt scroll-stopping results.

Thread-Lifts offer an effective solution – when performed by a highlytrained and regulated practitioner – to rejuvenate, lift and tighten the skin and add structure to areas such as the neck, jawline, mid-face and cheeks as well as around the eye area in a procedure that bridges the gap between non-invasive ‘tweakments’ and cosmetic surgery.

With the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow, Eva Mendez, the Duchess of York, Bella Hadid and the Kardashian-Jenner clan all known to have undergone ThreadLifts, it’s no wonder that uptake of the treatment is on the rise.

Though, as demand increases, industry standards dilute, and inadequately trained practitioners attempt to imitate results; advertising quick fixes that often undercut costs; undermine the complexity of the procedure; overlook stringent safety protocols; and covertly captivate patients into a false sense of security that can lead to serious complications. According to Save Face, a national register of accredited aesthetic practitioners who campaign for improved safety standards, complaints about Thread-Lift treatments almost tripled in 2022 compared with the previous year.

SO, HOW TO CUT THROUGH THE NOISE?

Dr Mahsa Saleki, Thread-Lift specialist and founder & clinical Director of SAS Aesthetics, together with Ashton Collins, founder and director of Save Face, are joining forces for their Thread Bare campaign: a mission to support the safe practice of thread treatments and drive up industry standards by raising awareness of the risks of improper Thread-Lift procedures and educating the public on the importance of finding a regulated aesthetics practitioner.

“As one of the first surgeons and cosmetics doctors to train and perfect safe PDO thread treatments in the UK, I feel passionate about putting my 10 years of knowledge and experience to good use. Anything that supports the education, health and safety of consumers is a worthy cause to that I am keen to dedicate my time. With the steadily increasing popularity of thread-based treatments, it is time to give threads the same care, attention and airtime to their use in practice as other clinic-based treatments such as injectables. In the right hands, threads can be highly effective for medium to longterm lifting, contouring and anti-ageing benefits, but sadly, more and more, I am being consulted by both patients and practitioners to correct all manner of issues due to a lack of understanding, experience and training. We need to stomp out bad practice fast.”

UNDERSTAND HOW THREADS WORK

Patient Promise SAS Aesthetics About Dr Mahsa Clinic

Thread-Lift treatments work by carefully inserting a number of biodegradable suture threads (anything between 1 or 2 threads, up to 50, depending on your skin and your goals) precisely within the skin using a needle or cannula.

The presence of these sutures stimulates the skin’s natural healing response which increases collagen production and regeneration to rebuild the skin from the inside out. Threads work to energise the production of collagen within the skin long after the threads themselves have dissolved, which over time, achieves a more youthful appearance with more lift and plumpness, diminishing fine lines and wrinkles.

Threads come in lots of types, shapes and sizes, including PCA, PLA and PDO mono, cog or screw, all with different characteristics that work to treat varying indications. Improper selection of thread type or incorrect placement can lead to unnecessary complications and so the knowledge, precision and expertise of practitioners are paramount to minimise risk and achieve reliable, effective results.
