Frequently Asked Questions

What is medical grade skincare?

Medical Grade Skincare are products that are made to a higher standard than over the counter products and have been proven to be more effective. They are recommended by a doctor or dermatologist and are specially formulated to provide benefits that are both aesthetic and medicinal. Medical Grade Products have a higher concentration of active ingredients such as Retinol and Vitamin C that penetrates the skin more effectively and has a longer lasting result, therefore, it is required that they are administered by a medical professional to your specific needs

When will I see results?

With a personalised medical skincare regime, it is possible to see results in as little as 6-8 weeks.

Why is it better than what I can buy in the shops?

Medical Grade Skincare Products have the advantage of containing a higher concentration of active ingredients. These products can only be prescribed by licensed doctors and physicians, and are therefore tailored to your specific needs and will better target your concerns more efficiently. This is due to the skin being able to absorb more of the active ingredients.

What is Retinol?

Retinol is a type of retinoid that is made from Vitamin A. Retinol reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by increasing the production of collagen and improving the appearance of the skin’s texture. Retinol helps keep pores clear by reducing the buildup of skin cells. The benefits of using a medical grade retinol is that the concentration is higher and is proven to be more effective.

What is Vitamin C and why is it good for the skin?

Vitamin C is an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory nutrient that is proven to improve skin tone and texture, hydrate the skin, and reduce signs of ageing. Adding Vitamin C to your skincare routine can not only brighten your complexion but also protect against skin damage caused by sun exposure and harmful free radicals. Vitamin C also helps the body produce collagen which assists the body heal and improves the skin’s elasticity. It also has the ability to improve hyperpigmentation.

Should I use Sunscreen everyday?

SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor and acts as a barrier between the skin and direct sunlight. Using an SPF 50 or higher everyday is extremely important as UV Rays still penetrate your skin even when you are not in direct sunlight. The SPF number tells you how long the sun’s UV radiation would take to redden your skin when using the product. For example, if you were to use SPF50, it would take 50 times longer for your skin to burn.

Why do I need a separate eye cream to my regular moisturiser?

The first signs of ageing often become visible around the eye area. The skin around the eyes is thinner and more delicate compared to the rest of the face. Eye creams are formulated specifically for the sensitive skin around the eye area. Eye creams have active ingredients aimed at the problems we see around the eyes, such as, targeting dehydration, minimises puffiness, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and brightening dark circles.

What are the best active ingredients to treat Acne?

One of the best ingredients to help treat acne is Salicylic Acid. Salicylic acid can help unclog blocked pores by breaking down and removing dead skin cells and excess oil. Salicylic acid penetrates deep into the pores and reduces the production levels of sebum, inflammation and redness. Ingredients such as Benzoyl Peroxide, and Alpha-Hydroxy Acids have antibacterial properties that help kill the bacteria which causes acne. Benzoyl Peroxide treats existing acne and targets the bacteria on the skin. It also has lightening properties and can help minimise the appearance of dark spots and acne scars. With this in mind, always look for an effective product with at least one of these ingredients.

I have hyperpigmentation, what skincare options do I have to treat this effectively?

Using a topical cream is a great place to start when treating skin conditions such as hyperpigmentation and melasma. Creams and other treatments containing Vitamin C will help reduce by brightening the skin and increasing the rate of cell turnover and help heal damaged skin. If your concerns are more severe, then a chemical skin peel might be a better treatment option and could be more effective.

My skin is dull, what skincare routine should I follow for a brighter complexion?

Lifestyle and Diet plays a huge role when it comes to making your skin appear brighter and more glowy. Staying hydrated by making sure that you drink enough water daily will hugely benefit your skin as it will help maintain the skin’s elasticity, act as a moisturiser, reduce any

scaring, and could even prevent fine lines. A skincare routine including Vitamin C is vital, it’s full of antioxidants and is proven to brighten dull skin texture and tone, fight free radical damage, dark spots, hyperpigmentation, increase collagen production, and provide anti-inflammatory effects. Therefore, eating foods such as tomatoes, oranges, lemons, bell peppers, and kale would be a great addition to your diet to help boost your skin from within.

I suffer from Rosacea, what can I do to treat it?

The cause of rosacea can be different for different people. The underlying cause can range from broken capillaries to sensitive skin. The treatment is usually targeted for the individual. Creams and serums can reduce the appearance of redness and prevent the symptoms from getting worse. Here at SAS, we offer an array of skincare products that can help you with specific concerns.
