The skin under the eyes is one of the thinnest and most transparent in the body making it susceptible to early signs of aging such as fine lines and wrinkles. For this reason it’s also notoriously difficult to treat but here at SAS Aesthetics our research and experience has shown that the best strategy is to re-enforce the thinning skin and replenish its collagen and elastin reserves from within.

Our treatment of choice to achieve this is to primarily utilise smooth, thin PDO, or polydiaxanone, MonoThreads. In order to rejuvenate the skin multiple threads are placed in a mesh like fashion to target sagging and crepeyness under the eyes. The controlled and sustained stimulation of the skin causes the body to produce collagen usually over a period of 6-8 weeks until the threads completely dissolve.

This sustained production of skin boosting proteins means the skin naturally replenishes itself from within to reduce the appearance of fine lines and reveal a smoother, more youthful appearance. In addition, a sequence of 3-6 sessions of this treatment will also enable long term prevention of under eye aging.

All Under Eye Rejuvenation Thread treatments can be combined with other treatments (anti-wrinkle injections, mesotherapy and tear trough filler) and carried out in less than an hour using local anaesthetic to minimise discomfort with minimal downtime. The effects of these techniques are typically permanent after 3-6 sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are PDO Threads?

PDO stands for polydioxanone which is a commonly used suture material by surgeons across the world in a variety of procedures. In aesthetics, there are two main types of PDO threads that both tighten and rejuvenate the skin.

  • Regenerative threads are smooth and act by stimulating the body to lay down collagen which in turns reinforces the skins’ natural structure. This process will improve the skins’ laxity, reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and scars.
  • Lifting threads have a more complex design which acts in a Velcro manner to lift the skin without any sutures.
What happens to PDO Threads over time?

The hair thin PDO threads begin to dissolve after 6 weeks and in their place your skin will lay down extra collagen to boost the skin turgor and elasticity.

Does the thread stay in my skin?

Yes, the thread is dissolvable so over time your body will absorb it fully but until then the PDO thread will remain in place and create tightness, after it dissolves it creates a biological  stimulus of collagen neosynthesis in the skin.

Is Under Eye Rejuvenation painful?

You will receive a local anaesthetic injection similar to that used by your dentist, this will numb the area and make the treatment pain free. The effects of the numbing injection will last up to 6 hours.

Are PDO Threads better than Dermal Fillers for Under Eye Rejuvenation?

The two work differently. Dermal fillers replace or add volume to areas of the face where it’s needed. PDO threads lift droopy skin. Depending on each individual case the best results may be achieved through a combination of the two.

What are the complications with thread lift?

The treatment is relatively safe, with minor complications such as swelling and bruising however there is a slightly increased risk of infection with PDO threads compared to other treatments, there is a small risk of nerve damage as well a negligible risk of scarring. During your appointment your doctor will explain the measures you must take to avoid and reduce the likelihood of these occurring.

What do I have to avoid before and after Under Eye Rejuvenation?

As with all aesthetics treatments, consumption of alcohol should be avoided for 12 hours before and after treatment, the same is said for smoking but for 6 hours. Specific to thread lifts, you should avoid strenuous exercise for 2 weeks after the treatment. Some clients maybe advised to go on a liquid diet for 3 -5 after the treatment. Depending on your medical conditions some clients who are diabetic or more prone to infection should take antibiotics for a short period after the treatment.

Other post treatment precautions will depend on which area is treated and will be discussed with you in depth during your clinic appointment.

Who can’t have the treatment?

This treatment is not recommended for pregnant women, those who are unable to avoid strenuous exercise for a period of two weeks such as athletes or those working in the fitness industry. Those with obesity are discouraged from having this treatment.

How often should the treatment be repeated?

For those wanting to build on their results, multiple treatments 6-8 weeks are recommended. With each treatment the results will last longer with an annual or bi-annual maintenance recommended for the majority of clients.
